Smith in District 10, Carroll County, Georgia.2 Newton Dobbs was also known as John N. Dobbs.2 He May have served in company F, 23d regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry, C. S. A. Dobbs, Newton- private August 31, 1861 . Captured at Chancellorsville, Va. May 3, 1863 . Exchanged at City Point, Va. May 23, 1863 . Roll for April 30, 1864 , last on file, shows him present.3

He may have served in company H, 1st Georgia Cavalry as a sergeant.4
