Joseph Blanchet was born on June 6, 1843 in Berne, Switzerland.1,2 He was the son of Lawrence Blanchard and Marguerite Duplain. He married Adelaide Olivier in 1867 in Glenmont, Ohio.2

Joseph Blanchet appeared on the census of 1860 in the household of Lawrence Blanchard and Marguerite Duplain in Black Creek, Holmes County, Ohio.3 He was a carpenter in Holmes County, Ohio, about 1870.1 He and Adelaide Blanchet appeared on the census of 1870 in Richland Twnshp, Holmes County, Ohio, - listed in the same household: George Blanchard and Lawrence Blanchard.4 After Frank Gaume died, Joseph Blanchet signed, in 1918, an affidavit supporting Justine Blanchat's widow's pension claim. Joseph lived in Medicine Lodge, Kansas at that time.5
