Leopold Joseph DeBacker was born on October 21, 1894 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was the son of August Vital Francois Joseph DeBacker and Della Gaume. He married Geraldine Getrude O'Malley, daughter of Patrick A. O'Malley and Mary A. Hooks, on June 23, 1918 in St Marys, Pottawatomie County, Kansas.1 He died on October 19, 1966 in Hastings, Adams County, Nebraska, at age 71. He was buried on October 22, 1966 in Hastings.

He graduated from St. Marys College (BA) in St Marys in 1914.1 He registered for the military draft in May, 1917 at age 22 in Omaha.2 He graduated from Creighton University School of Medicine (MD) in Omaha in 1918.1 From June, 1918 to August, 1919, Leopold Joseph DeBacker served in USN Medical Reserve Corps during the World I. He held the rank of lieutenant senior grade. He was stationed at Providence, Rhode Island, part of the time.1 He appeared in a group photo with others about 1919 in St Marys. See exhibit. He resided in Spalding, Nebraska, about 1920. He was a instructor in physiology & biological chemistry in Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska, between 1921 and 1925.1 He resided in Omaha about 1925. He was a physician and staff member at Mary Lanning Memorial Hosp in Hastings between 1925 and 1966. He resided in Hastings between 1926 and 1966. He appeared in a group photo with others about 1940 in Hastings, Nebraska. See exhibit. Leopold Joseph DeBacker lived at Hastings, Adams County, Nebraska. He was member of Adams Co Med Soc, Neb St & AMA, K of C, BPOE and Cath Church.1
