Lewis Dobbs was born in 1800 in South Carolina. He was the son of Lodowick Dobbs and Sarah Adams. He married Hepsey before 1850.

He was named an heir in the will of Lodowick Dobbs dated May 13, 1814 in Pendleton District (Anderson Co.), South Carolina.1 He was a miner in Lumpkin County, Georgia, in 1850.2
