Bernard James Campbell Jr. was born on November 8, 1836 in Down, Northern Ireland. He was the son of Bernard James Campbell Sr. and Elenora Keenan. He married Mary before 1860. He married Henrietta Knox Kelsey, daughter of William Kelsey and Mary Emily Knox, about 1885 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky.1 He died on September 12, 1916 in Louisville at age 79.

He emigrated with Elenora Keenan on November 1, 1849 from Ireland.2 He was naturalized in 1860 in Louisville. He was a plasterer in Louisville between 1860 and 1910.3,4 He was a deputy sheriff in Louisville in 1880.5 He was found in the in 1886 in Louisville city directory, occupation shown as plasterer and address as 2305 Rowan street.6 He was found in the in 1887 in Louisville city directory, occupation plasterer.7 He was found in the in 1890 in Louisville city directory, occupation shown as plasterer and address shown as 2305 Rowan.8 He appeared in a group photo with others about 1914 in Louisville, Kentucky.
