Regarding the name "LaChat": Marielle Hovette, attributed to Jean Tosti: it is in upper Rhine that the name is the most common and found amoung some families in the Swiss Jura. The meaning is uncertain, but it is quite possible that Latscha is a distortion of Lachat, a very common place name in Savoie, where the word CAT (also chaz) is a variant of chal (= mountain, grazing root prélatine calm).2
