David Judson Dobbs was born on May 14, 1835 in Elberton, Elbert County, Georgia.1 He was the son of David Dobbs and Elizabeth McMullan. He married Martha Josephine Prothro, daughter of Evan Prothro and Sarah "Salley" Hickson, in 1856 in Aiken County, South Carolina. He died on July 18, 1877 in Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia, at age 42. He was buried in Marietta City Cemetery, Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia.2

He graduated from Georgia Military Institute in Marietta in 1856.3,4 He was a Farmer in Marietta from 1859 to 1877. In 1861, David Judson Dobbs served in Kennesaw Dragoons during the American Civil War. The Kennesaw Dragoons was a small calvary troop. His rank is listed as master private.3,2
He may have served in company E, 7th Georgia Infantry with the rank sargeant.5 Between 1861 and 1864, David Judson Dobbs served in Co. E 7th Regiment, Georgia Infantry (State Guards).6 He left a will on August 30, 1877 in Cobb County, Georgia.2
