Thomas J. Dobbs was born in 1839 in Georgia. He was the son of Josiah Dobbs and Elizabeth Prothro.

He May have served in company F, 23d regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry. Dobbs, Thomas- private August 31, 1861 . Wounded in right arm, necessitating amputation, at Sharpsburg, Md. September 17, 1862. Absent, wounded, close of war. (See also Thomas Union Dobbs, Thomas Dobbs and Thomas Dobbs).1 From 1861 to 1865, Thomas J. Dobbs served in 41st Regiment, Georgia Infantry.2
