Never married; died of throat cancer. Was a merchant seaman, and lived at the Ansley Hotel in Atlanta. Was given a large piece of land in East Point; he sold it piece by piece as he needed the money to live.When in the hospital with cancer, he told his brother Evan Prothro Dobbs that he would leave him the remainder of this land, if he, E.P. (Dick) would pay the hospital bills. Buried at City Cemetery, Marietta, Ga. Funeral Notice from Atlanta Constitution, Nov 25 1937: Friends and relatives of Mr. Max Dobbs, Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Dobbs, Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Dobbs, Mrs. Lillian D. Finn and Mrs. Mattie L. Smith are invited to attend the funeral of Mr. Max Dobbs, Friday morning at 11o'clock at the graveside in City cemetery, Marietta, Ga. Rev. J.H. Patton and Rev. I.A. White will officiate. The following gentlemen will please serve as pallbearers and meet at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Dobbs at 10:30 a.m. Messrs. E.D. Massey, Fred Morris, A.V.Corutelyou, Howell Trevdant, D.C. Cole, Ed. Nichols, George D. Anderson. Mayes Ward Co., Marietta, Georgia.1
