Josiah Dobbs was born on August 17, 1732 in Middlesex County, Virginia.1 He was the son of John Dobbs and Elizabeth.1 He was christened on August 28, 1732 in Middlesex County, Virginia.1

Some pedigrees indicate that John Dobbs was a son of Josiah Dobbs. He may have descended from the Dobbs family in Middlesex Co., Virginia that appear in records for Christ Church Parish, Middlesex County, Virginia Marriages, 1653-1812.2,3 He was was granted guardianship of Jesse, Thomas, Edmund, and William Bennitt, orphans of John Bennitt on February 4, 1773 in Isle Of Wight, Virginia.4
