Emma Hahr Dobbs was born on March 4, 1893 in Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia.1 She was the daughter of James Monroe Dobbs Sr. and Emma Charlotte Hahr. She married Walter Herbert Smith, son of Eugene Smith and Elisabeth Fondren, on October 28, 1915 in Marietta. She died about May 4, 1972 in Washington, D.C..

Emma Hahr Dobbs was also known as Emita Dobbs. Her married name was Emma Smith. The sons were both mentally handicapped. One was born handicapped; the other graduated from college, came home and sat down and never spoke again. (Family tradition) Emita was buried at Arlington National Cemetery on 4 May 1972, date of death not known. (Husband's grave is section 3, grave 2396.) Also buried there are adult dependent sons: (according to letter from Arlington National Cemetery) Eugene Hamilton, 1919-1959 and Charles Kimball, 1971-1966. "A surviving daughter is shown as her next of kin."1
